Cowboy Action

The Huronia Gunfighters

Cowboy Action Shooting, also known as Western Action Shooting or Single Action Shooting, is a competitive shooting sport that originated in the USA in the late 1900s. Cowboy Action Shooting is now practiced in many places with several sanctioning organizations including the Single Action Shooting Society, Western Action Shootists Association, and National Congress of Old West Shooters, as well as others.

Cowboy Action Shooting requires competitors to use firearms typical of the mid- to late 1800s: single action revolvers, lever action rifles chambered in pistol calibers, and side-by-side double barrel shotguns. Both original and reproduction guns are equally acceptable. All Cowboy Action Shooting handguns must be “single-action”, meaning that the hammer must be manually cocked before each shot can be fired. Competition in a Cowboy Action Shooting match generally requires four guns: two period revolvers, a shotgun, and a rifle.

Competitors are also required to wear some sort of an Old West costume. You can make it your self, or buy it. But remember to start you don’t have to be 100% period correct. You just need to look like a cowboy/cowgirl. Participants must also select an alias out of the Old West or having an Old West flair.
